ten-legged freaks

As far as I know, octopuses, or octupi, have always had eight legs. Hence, the name octopus, with the octo bit meaning "eight".

I love hugging. I wish I was an octopus, so I could hug 10 people at a time!

So while trawling though the forums, I came across the above and reading that got me all confused. Have they discovered a species of octopus with more than eight legs? If so, would they still be called octopuses?

And then I thought: Maybe, just maybe, what she really wants to be is a mutant octopus with ten legs, she just forgot to say so!

That gave my soul a measure of peace.
